Claire LaFontaine is an artist, printmaker, and environmental enthusiast living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is a graduate of the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Her master’s thesis show consisted of black and white monotype prints and print based sculptural installations using plant materials gathered from urban green spaces. Having received a B.A. degree in Biology from the University of Vermont, she uses her love of the natural world as the driving force for the content of her work. Spending time outside exploring the natural world is an integral part of her studio practice. In the Spring of 2016 Claire helped to establish the Paper Maker’s Farm, a research garden space at UWM PSOA’s Kenilworth building, dedicated to growing native Wisconsin plants used for making handmade paper and natural dyes. She continues exploring these topics post grad school in her home garden and studio.
